IDOC - Intermediate Document

IDOC is created for communication between two isolated SAP systems or SAP with third party system.

In SAP to SAP communication IDOC is created in both the systems while SAP to Non SAP system, IDOC is created in SAP subsequently it may be converted to XML file to be sent or vice versa.

Structure of IDOC consist of  Messgae type, Basic type and Segments.

T-code WE60 to explore the segments and fileds in each segment. Enter basic type on the initial screen and explore the struture. It is similat to explore the BAPI structure through SE37

WE02 - To view list of IDOCs cretaed with status number and traffic lights (Red, Yellow and Green)

WE05 - To view list edit IDOC. Status of the IDOC changes after editing

WE09 - To search for IDOC through data stored in some segment

WE19 - To copy and create new IDOC. Data/information cna be edited while doing so

To set up the interface between Warehouse Management and the Production Planning application components, you must carry out the following steps:

Define the WM movement type for material staging. WM movement type 319 has been defined in the standard SAP system for this purpose.
To assign the movement type to replenish production storage bins, see Interfaces ® Define production data in the Warehouse Management IMG documentation. For more information about movement types in general, see Movement Types.

Define at least one storage type for material staging. Storage type 100 has been defined in the standard system for this purpose (see The Storage Type).

You must define the replenishment movement type for this storage type. Do not active SU-management and do not define a putaway or pick strategy.

Create the Production Supply Areas.
You must define and manage physical production storage bins using WM.
Define the control cycle records within a plant to establish how and to where a material is to be supplied within a production supply area.
If you want the material staging for production orders to take place automatically, you must set the WM request flag at the production control level. See Automatic Staging for WM.
Activate the PP interface in the warehouse number record. For more information about this topic, see Logistics Execution ® Warehouse Management ® Interfaces ® Define production in the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Warehouse Management.
If you want to use automatic staging, it is essential that the materials used in connection with this interface are assigned to a production storage location and contain a production scheduler.

Production Supply Areas

Production supply areas (PSAs) are used for material replenishment and are situated directly on the shop floor in the production department. The supply area groups work centers near production storage bins based on the material staging methods. You need to enter the PSA in the work center master data.

To create production supply areas in Customizing for Warehouse Management in your system, choose Logistics Execution ® Warehouse Management ® Interfaces ® Define Production.
Creating a Control Cycle

The control cycle record is made up of the plant, production supply area and material and determines for the WM-PP interface the production storage bin and the type of material staging that is used. The production storage bin is defined by the whole key: warehouse number, storage type and bin.

You create control cycles by choosing Logistics ® Logistics Execution ® Master Data ® Warehouse ® Production Supply ® Control Cycle Production Supply ® Create from the SAP menu.

You can also define a control cycle without specifying the material. This general entry is valid for all materials in the supply area for which no control cycle has been defined.

Displaying Control Cycles

To display a list of existing control cycles, choose Logistics ® Logistics Execution ® Information System ® Warehouse ® Production Supply ® List of Ctrl Cycles from the SAP menu.

Control cycles are managed using number ranges that are established in PP. Therefore, you should ensure that number ranges have been created for control cycles before using this interface. To create number ranges for control cycles, see Kanban ® Define number range for control cycle in Customizing for Production.
Production Storage Bins

Production storage bins that are used for material staging are determined by the system based on the control cycle.

Production workers must pick parts for production only from production storage bins. Otherwise, discrepancies in stock quantities in WM will result.

The storage bin can be defined as a

Physical storage bin
Dynamic storage bin (only for pick parts u2013 production order number)
To create the necessary physical production storage bins, choose Master data ® Storage bin ® Create from the WM menu bar..
